Strong currency fluctuations triggered financial difficulties for the family owned business, Palfinger, and a restructuring became necessary. The management decided to bring in a financial partner and chose UIAG, under Kurt Stiassny. With a strengthened equity base, the restructuring measures could be implemented successfully and, with Kurt Stiassny, the company gained a competent advisor for the follow-on solution. In June 1999, after a successful IPO, the capital provider sold his interest.

Palfinger is among the leading international manufacturers of hydraulic lifting, loading and handling systems. The multinational corporation with headquarters in Salzburg, has production and assembly locations in Europe, North and South America as well as in Asia. Palfinger leads the global market for truck-mounted, knuckle boom cranes and container recycling systems; Worldwide, it is currently number two for hookloaders, timber and recycling cranes, and European technology and market leader in railway applications in the high-tech area.
